From Procreate to a product: My design process-

I’M SO EXCITED TO RELEASE MY NEW PRODUCTS INTO YOUR HOMES. I honestly really am.

Although look how pretty my shelves look?🤣 They won’t when they get packed off to their new homes.

I think the longest part of the process has been finding a supplier that I trust and get good vibes from....and it turn out that Lau is a fellow Small business owner, Yay!!!!

I emailed around 6 suppliers at first, some took weeks to respond and others just didn’t sit right with me. So if you’re in the design process and looking for suppliers, make sure that you feel comfortable with that person.

To design my new products I’ve started in my sketch book with a pencil. To me I feel less pressurised this way. I then move my sketches into procreate and start the magic with my favourite pens in procreate. I love a bold outline and block colour but I’m also a sucker for texture so that’s why I’ve combined the two.

When designing I really love to use different mediums like collage, pencil, pen and paint. There feels way less pressure to start in a sketch book rather than going straight into procreate.

I drew these from a mixture of books and some of these are sketches form my house plants.

I then photograph my sketches and roughly trace over them in Procreate and then the magic begins. Now I know the kinds of styles that I like I’ve now invested in some new procreate pens too. There are so many free pens available too.

Here I am drawing out one of my mug

designs.

I usually start by drawing items on their own

then combine the imagery after playing about with different compositions.

Once with some of my designs I then send off for some samples to see how my design fits on a particular product and to see if I’m happy with the quality.

YES I AM HAPPY!!

Here are some of my mugs ready for my launch next week on March 31st-7.30pm for newsletter subscribers.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you online on the 31st March.
